Did you know that UV rays damage not only the skin around the eyes but the cornea, lens, and other parts of the eyes? As part of National Sunglasses Day this month, Brookridge EyeCare is bringing awareness to the significance of UV protection. UV damage to the eyes is often times very painful and not easily healed. The best way to protect your eyes from UV damage is to make sure your sunglasses have adequate UV protection for you. Not just for adults, either. Children are particularly susceptible because the lenses of their eyes are more transparent than adults. Make sure that yours and your child's sunglasses are both UV-A and UV-B protectant, screen out 75-90% of visible light and fit close to the eyes and wrap around the head to prevent UV radiation from all sides. Lucky for us, sunglasses can be as stylish as they can protective.
